sustainable energy for your home and for the future

Ground & Air Source Heat Pumps

With the rise in energy cost in recent years heat pumps are becoming more popular as a way of heating your home. The benefits depend on the fossil fuel or energy source that is being displaced. Houses that are heated by oil, LPG or electricity are best placed to benefit from heat pumps as an alternative.

At ecosure we install both Ground and Air Source Heat Pumps. This allows us to offer the most appropriate solution for you and your home. A number of factors need to be taken into consideration, such as the amount of land or space available, geographic location, budget, current heating system, and perhaps most importantly of all the insulation level of the property.

Because heat pumps work at lower temperatures than conventional systems (such as a typical oil or gas boiler) it is vital that your home is as well insulated as possible. A heat pump is unlikely to provide sufficient heat if your home leaks energy through walls, roof or windows. We would not recommend heat pump technology for poorly insulated properties.

Heat pumps work most efficiently with under floor heating (which is fine if the property is a new build) but it is not always practical to retro-fit underfloor heating into existing properties unless major renovations are planned. The alternative solution would be to upgrade radiators if necessary to accommodate the lower temperature produced by heat pumps.

Heat Pumps can provide all your central heating and domestic hot water needs and can be linked in with other renewable energy technologies such as Solar Thermal. They can also be linked to existing heating systems such as oil or LPG boilers which can be used to provide extra heat if required. Because heat pumps use electricity they can also work in conjunction with a renewable electricity source such as Solar Photovoltaics.
